What is a Public Insurance Adjuster?
A Public Adjuster is a licensed professional who works solely for the policy holder. We assist in the preparation, presentation, and settlement of first party property insurance claims. As your advocate, we work with the insurance company adjuster on your behalf, to be sure you receive everything you are entitled to under the terms of the policy. The claims process is complicated, time consuming, and overwhelming. Having an experienced public adjuster working for you can save you money and time. Connecticut licensed public adjusters must follow strict guidelines set for by the Connecticut Insurance Department.

CAPIA has been very active in the Public Adjuster Industry since its inception, and we stand committed to continue to protect the public adjusting industry and to protect the consumer’s interest during the insurance claim process. CAPIA members have access to membership forums to discuss claims issues, changes in state insurance laws, and insurance news. Quarterly meetings are held to network with other adjusters and provide relevant training for members.
CAPIA is a network of over 40 licensed public adjusters across the state of Connecticut. By working with a CAPIA member, clients can be assured that they are working with a professional whose ethics are a core business value. Our directory includes both email and telephone contact information for our members and we encourage both prospective members and clients to reach out to our members to discuss claims questions.
CAPIA is a non-profit organization funded through donations and membership fees. Donations to CAPIA’s general fund are used to further our lobbying in Connecticut. We continue to maintain our positive relationship with the CT State Insurance Department and utilize their expertise for continuing education of our members. CAPIA partners with attorneys, restoration companies, and other industries with an interest in the insurance claims process.
Why Connecticut Consumers need the Services of a Public Adjuster
Property insurance policies require the insured/policy holder to present their claim to the insurance company. As Public Adjusters, we are trained in the claims process. In presenting your claim, we review and evaluate your insurance policy to determine the types of coverage you have. We then determine the covered damage and document the cost to repair or replace in a format required by the insurance company.
We as public adjusters know the stressful aftermath of suffering a loss. Knowing that we are working on your behalf to recover every dollar you are entitled to under the policy, brings peace of mind. Public Adjusters have expertise in different areas of claim presentation, including understanding complex insurance policies and claims.
